Breaking the Mommy Wine Habit: A Journey Back to Yourself
“I didn’t realise it had become a habit…”
For a long time, I told myself it was just a glass of wine to unwind.
The kids were in bed, the day was finally over, and I just needed something to help me relax.
To switch off. To feel like me again.
It felt normal. In fact, it felt like something I deserved after holding everything together all day.
But slowly, I noticed the shift. One glass turned into two.
I began looking forward to it more than I wanted to admit.
And over time, I realised it was getting harder to cope with life without it.
That’s how breaking the mommy wine habit often begins — not with rock bottom, but with small, quiet realizations.
The kind that whisper, “This isn’t working anymore.”
I’ve spoken to so many other mums who’ve felt the same — living on autopilot, quietly overwhelmed, giving everything to everyone else and leaving nothing for themselves. For many, that evening drink becomes the only moment where they feel like they can breathe.
But what I’ve come to realise is this:
Often, the drinking isn’t really about the wine.
It’s about what’s underneath — the exhaustion, the pressure, the loneliness, the invisible weight of being “everything” to everyone.
Sometimes it comes from old wounds or unhealed trauma.
And for many, it’s rooted in that quiet, painful belief that we’re not enough, not as mums, partners, women, or human beings.
If any of this sounds familiar, I want you to know something deeply important:
You are not alone.
You are not broken.
And you don’t have to keep living in a way that doesn’t feel good for you.
There is a way forward — one that feels lighter, freer, and more connected to the real you.
I’ve walked this path myself. And now I support others who are ready to make changes, not from a place of shame or guilt, but from a place of self-respect and care.
You don’t have to be perfect.
You just have to be willing to take one small, honest step at a time.
You can feel proud of the life you’re living, not just surviving it.
Change is possible — at any age, at any stage.
And you don’t have to do it alone.
If this post resonated with you — if you’ve been feeling stretched thin, disconnected, or relying on wine just to unwind — I want to offer you something gentle and supportive.
